The past and reconciliation: Afrikaans war literature as (alternative) source of historiography regarding the individual
This article looks at Afrikaans literary texts in which the ‘border war’ (1966-1989) is dealt with in a creative manner, and contrasts these texts with historiographical texts on this topic. The role that fictional texts with a partly historical content play in the process of reconciliation in South Africa is examined with reference to ‘border literature’ in particular.
