The war with many names - viewpoints and realities regarding ‘the War’ (1899-1902) in South Africa
This article mainly debates the name of the War. Foci which are discussed include the following:
• Approaches to the concept of the war - semantically and historically
• The variety of names and viewpoints regarding the War
• Realities that should be considered.
The author concludes her discussion by using semantic and historical realities, as discussed, to suggest a name for this War (on the eve of centenary celebrations) to do justice to this historical event.
